Promotions and Social Media

  • Discuss which promotion ideas you find most valuable and why.
    • The promotion ideas I find most valuable are those that people can relate to.
      • Memes are the way some people, especially those who are younger, communicate. They are usually funny, and if you can make a person laugh, they are likely to be curious as to who is making the funny material.
      • Social media is an excellent tool to use for promotions. Personally, when I am looking at a business, I check their Facebook page if they have one. If they have one and I have a question, they are more likely to answer a Facebook message than an email in a fast manner. It is also a good way for people to see your events, better than a blog or website.

  • Some of the suggestions could be interpreted as “tooting your own horn.” Describe how comfortable you are with promoting your library in that manner.
    • I want my library to be successful, and I want to celebrate in those successes when they happen. I want to share it with the world. I think a business of any kind should be able to be proud of its accomplishments.

  • Explain what personal strengths and weaknesses you have that will help you promote your library. What tools and resources can you utilize to overcome your weaknesses?
    • I put my heart and soul into anything I am doing. As I said before, I want my library to be successful. I also am a little social media savvy, so I can post to the library's social media pages. My weakness would be maintaining a schedule, and I would be able to utilize the social media site's schedule post tools, so I could make the posts I need to and schedule them for certain increments of time.
